California’s Run Catalina Island Events Are Back!

Announcement from long-time American Trail Running Association member Spectrum Sports, organizers of the Catalina Island Marathon.

We are excited to announce the return of Run Catalina this fall. We have been working very closely with the state of California and the state health officials and we’re very excited to see the new Guidelines for Community Events that will lift the curtain on running on Catalina Island. During the past year, we have prepared to return safely, worked alongside stakeholders on Catalina Island, and monitored the health of our running community – now is the time to get back on the island, challenge some hills and maybe even run alongside the famous Catalina Bison.

All websites are updated with new information on COVID safety; registrations are open and we are preparing for the postponed 2021 Catalina Island Marathon on October 9th. To make registration easier, for this year we have leveled off the pricing into two steps; current pricing and event weekend pricing so register now, come on over to Catalina, enjoy the weather, the restaurants, meet old friends and connect with new friends.

Catalina Island Marathon
Saturday, October 9, 2021 is race day for the 43rd Annual running of the Catalina Island Marathon, the oldest trail marathon in California. This is a true bucket-list run that traverses the entire island with scenes of both sides of the island; beaches, 4000 feet of elevation, dramatic downhills, valleys, and hopefully some bison. You will start the marathon in Two Harbors and finish in downtown Avalon, having experienced 26.2 miles of pristine beauty. You can register for the Catalina Island Marathon on RunSignUp.com

Catalina Island Triathlon, Duathlon and 5K
On Saturday, October 30, 2021, the traditional end-of-the-year triathlon is set up perfectly for the experienced triathlete and the novice alike. A safe, one-half mile swim in Avalon Bay; three laps around Mt. Ada; and a gradual out and back run to the Wrigley Memorial will find you finishing in downtown Avalon for a cool beverage of your choice and plenty of stories. Registration for this event will be available shortly on the Run Catalina website.

Catalina Island Half Marathon
Taking place Saturday, November 13, 2021, the Catalina Island Half Marathon is our fastest-growing run of Run Catalina. A challenging half-marathon around the East End of the island, up behind the Wrigley Mansion; around Renton Mine Road; traversing the backside of the island and then down through the Wrigley Memorial. This weekend also includes our most popular trail 10K of the year, dramatic views of Avalon Bay while you run around historic homes and the lower hillside of Avalon. You can register for the Catalina Island Half Marathon on RunSignUp.com

Avalon Benefit 50 Mile/50K Run
Taking place on Saturday, January 8, 2022, the Avalon Benefit 50 Mile/50K Run is the oldest Ultra Trail Run in California with the 50 Mile run entering its 41st year. The 50K joined the party four years ago and instantly became a California classic in trail running traversing all of the same trails that the older run uses. Running the Avalon Benefit 50Mile/50K provides you a first-rate, up-close and personal experience of one of California’s natural jewels in tail running across Catalina Island. The run begins and ends in Avalon and in between you simply have to run the entire length of the island – and back! In between you will experience beautiful vistas, tremendous views of the Pacific Ocean, see a bison or two and experience some of the sports great volunteers and aid stations. You can register for the Avalon Benefit 50/50 Run on the Run Catalina website.

We cannot wait to see you back in Avalon, if you have questions please call (909) 399-3553 or email us at [email protected] and we will get right back to you with answers.
