The following letter is an invitation to mountain and trail runners interested in competing in the World Snowshoe Championships next year in Italy.
Good Morning and Best Wishes to all Mountain/Trail Running Athletes,
My name is Mark Elmore. I am a Past President of the World Snowshoe Federation. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend the 2016 WSSF World Snowshoe Championships in Vezza d’Oglio Italy on Saturday February 6th, 2016. We anticipate this event being our most “international” ever. We hope you will consider attending and competing over the 10km distance. We also present a 5km WC snowshoe event for Junior aged athletes (will not turn 20 years of age in 2016). Both the 5km and 10km WC events offer a “Team” division which is always an exciting aspect to our championship events. If you confirm your attendance early enough, we can see that you are provided with snowshoes so that you do not need to purchase your own. Running on snowshoes is the same as running without snowshoes. There is no learning curve and you do not change your stride at all. Typical racing snowshoes weigh less than 1 pound per shoe. You simply put them on and go! If you are interested in attending, please let me know asap. There will be some event support available to incoming international athletes. We are working to identify and confirm what support can be provided.
On a side note, some of the athletes competing in the 2016 WC’s in Vezza d’Oglio will then be traveling to Pieve di Cadore Italy to compete in the famous Ciaspalonga Snowshoe Marathon and Half Marathon events the following weekend on Saturday February 13th, 2016 in the heart of Italy’s famously beautiful Dolomite Mountain range. Perhaps you’d consider coming for both events? If so, let me know. I am in the midst of coordinating a trip to both these events for several North American athletes. I’d be happy to assist you with your travel plans.
Please assist us in spreading the word about these two awesome events. Snowshoe running is the winter version of mountain and trail running and allows us to enjoy the running we love all year long. It is so simple that anyone can do it….even those that have never been on snowshoes before. Just put them on and hit the trails. I hope our paths cross in northern Italy this winter.
Sincerely Yours on Snow,
US Snowshoe Association Sports Director
US National Snowshoe Team Director
