About the Race
If you enjoyed the challenge and post-race atmosphere of the Tough Topanga 10k, you’ll love the brand new Tough Mugu 25k Trail Run. Featuring single-track climbing up the famous Ray Miller Trail, fire roads traversing ridges of the Santa Monica Mountains, ocean views from mountainside trails, and the steep climb up to Mugu Peak, it’s competitive fun for everyone!

This classic trail run offers a cash prize purse for Age Group Athletes, and a “Downhill Flyer” time bonus. Finisher medals, overall winners and age group awards are handcrafted by local artists, the shirts are soft, a sweet design, and fit specific to men, women, and children, and you get official bragging rights for next year’s event.

Be part of the Hiker’s Delight watch the runners start and finish while you head up the mountain on a fully-supported hike.

Kids can run the Junior Tough Mugu 1-mile race, and earn prize money, too!

Enjoy hard-earned breakfast burritos after the race, check out the exhibitors at the post-race festival, or make runner friends in the beer garden while embellishing race stories. There’ll be plenty of breakfast and places to sit for everyone. Cheer on the future of trail running as kids run the Junior’s race and stick around for the awards ceremony honoring the toughest runners. Maybe even get lucky and win a giveaway from an amazing event sponsor!

This event benefits 1% For The Planet and California State Parks. A great effort is made to partner with the amazing, local businesses of Malibu, California.

Course Description
All Tough Mugu events start at La Jolla Group Campground, in Point Mugu State Park.

The Tough Mugu 25k course has all the elements of ideal, Southern California mountain running! Winding up from sea level, the famous Ray Miller Trail, leads the race above the coastline and onto mountain top fire roads, rolling valleys, and chaparral forest single track. Near the halfway point, the burning climb up Mugu Peak rewards runners with epic views of the Channel Islands and Boney Mountain, before braving the technical descent. The final 5k cruises back down the Ray Miller switchbacks, determining who the true “Downhill Flyers” are.

The 25k course is equipped with four, fully-stocked aid stations and climbs a total of 2,601 feet.

The Junior Tough Mugu 1-mile race has elements of the Tough Mugu 25k, but after a short climb into La Jolla canyon, runners return downhill and surge down a technical single-track to the finish line, with cheering spectators.
