Obertauern invites you to its famous peak-arena for a new trail running first class nature spectacle.

In line with the motto #LOVEOBERTAUERN you will learn to love the varied, flowing, technically challenging trails with magnificent 360° panoramic views in the beautiful alpine nature around Obertauern at the 1st Obertauern Trailrun Summit (OTS) in July 2024.

The OTS promises trail running variety and adventure per excellence thanks to the numerous high alpine peaks with up to 2,501 meters of altitude (Großer Pleißlingkeil), technical passages with 1st degree climbing sections, steep tracks, paths and natural trails as well as fast forest and gravel roads with an asphalt share of only 5.9% by cumulative 165.4 race kilometers!

The combined start and finish area as well as the TVB Obertauern Haus des Gastes (start number distribution and award ceremonies) are located directly on the Radstädter Tauernpass, a mountain pass at an altitude of 1,738 meters above sea level, which connects the Pongau with the Lungau and the Radstädter Tauern with the Schladminger Tauern.

Where else in the entire Eastern Alps is the start and finish area at an altitude of 1,738 meters? Your physical fitness will thank you for your participation at the OTS!! After all, your stay in Obertauern and participation in the OTS represents sustainable altitude training with real added value thanks to the increased production of red blood cells.

The new “Sprint Trail” competition format, which is limited to 60 male and 60 female participants, will kick off on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 5:00 pm, with wave starts/heats with 10 men and 10 women instead of the usual mass start. In 5-minute intervals, 6x ten trail runners and then 6x ten female trail runners will be sent on the 1.8 km course with 97 steep meters of altitude difference on the uphill (Gamsleiten ski run!) and also on the downhill. So you have to win your race and achieve a great time to be on the podium at the end! This is sure to be a super exciting competition for all participants and spectators! The Sprint Trail is very short at 1.8 km so that all participants can also compete in the “usual” trail running distances on Saturday without any loss of physical substance. However, you have also in the “Sprint Trail” the chance to win the same prize money as in the other competitions! Even the Austrian public broadcaster ORF is interested in a TV broadcast of the Sprint Trail and will decide in spring 2024 whether it will broadcast the Sprint Trail live on one of its channels!

With the 4 trail running competitions on Saturday, July 13, 2024 Short Trail 1 Summit (8.6km / 809 Hm Up and Down), Half Marathon Trail 1 Summit (26km / 1,691 Hm Up and Down / 20K), Marathon Trail 2 Summits (53.3km / 3,013Hm Up and Down / 50K) and Trail Ultra 5 Summits (75.7km / 4,646Hm Up and Down / 100K), there is the right route for every trail runner. Register right here for the Sprint Trail and/or for one of the “usual” trail running distances.

In January and February 2024, the organizer Trail Pro-Events e.U. will register the 5 OTS competitions with the ASTA, the ÖLV, the ITRA, the UTMB, the ISF, the IAU and the WMRA. Afterwards Trail Pro-Events e.U. will announce the respective association specifications on the OTS website in the descriptions of the 5 competitions.

Obertauern welcomes you and the entire trail running community to the “Trail Running Summit Event”. The name should become the program:

On the one hand, due to the short distances in Obertauern, many participants will stay overnight in Obertauern, Untertauern and Tweng and the start and finish area as well as the Haus des Gastes, which is only 150m away, are compactly located together, and on the other hand, due to the free “Summit” program planned for Sunday, 14 July 2024, which will soon be filled with life.
