Snowshoes (snow rackets in the local dialect) has a long tradition in Trentino. In the past it was used by hunters and farmers to move around easily on the snow without sinking into it. Today their use has been rediscovered because they are a fantastic way to enjoy the mountains in the winter.
In Trentino there are many La Ciaspolada paths and there has been an increase in events of this kind, but the one and only La Ciaspolada event is held in Val di Non.

The snowshoe, snow racket race, has been held every year from more then 50 years at the beginning of January. La Ciaspolada is divided into two sections: a competitive race for athletes, and a fun race for anyone who wants to spend funny time on the snow.
Every year the route is different depending on the snow fall. This is the reason the route of La Ciaspolada will be decided a few days before the race. The route is around 7 km long and is mainly over flat terrain with slight climbs.

It takes place in the first days of January and, with the exception of 2020, it has always taken place at 10.30 in the morning.
