Description: Full or Half Marathon run/walk on trails through the 7,050 acre historic Big Springs Ranch for Children, outside Leakey, Texas. This race has it all! Epic vistas, gorgeous Texas Hill Country scenery, valleys, hills, past cliffs, through canyons, witnessing amazing wildlife, birds, plant life and wildflowers. You pass through an early pioneer's farm site, with the 1800's cabin still standing, and the gravestone of a young woman who died during childbirth. You pass a water cave with stalactites at the headwaters of the Frio River at Big Springs, running or walking through the river at multiple points. There's a Texas Longhorn and horse pasture along the way, the crossing of a dry creek bed containing dozens of enormous dinosaur tracks impressed in the rock of the creek bottom, there's a half mile of significant elevation gain to a stunning view of where you just ran or walked about 10-miles of unforgettable trails, and then have about three miles to go to Finish Line at the very entrance to the Prayer Garden at Big Springs Ranch for Children. This is a fundraising event for Big Springs Ranch for Children, home to abused, abandoned, and severely traumatized children. This trail run/walk is being held during April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. There is no entry fee. There is a set fundraising minimum for the full and half marathon. See web-site for information. This is one for the ages! Don't miss this one!!
