Dark Knight Trail Run

Have you tried a nighttime trail race? Everyone’s favorite “Goats in the Dark” 5k is on again for 2026! REGISTER BY MAY 31 for early-bird pricing.

The course is unchanged, starting at the corner of LeGrande Cannon Blvd and Silverette St, on Helena’s far west side. Nighttime temperatures in late August are usually pleasant and runners can enjoy beautiful sunset views before full darkness descends upon the course. Headlamps are still required — don’t forget yours!

The course follows LeGrande Cannon Blvd east to Tubbs Trailhead, where runners head up the switchbacks for a fun loop on Swaney, Diretissima and Ambrose trails on Mount Helena’s northwest flank. Runners finish the singletrack portion of the course on the Panhandle trail, which drops down to Reber Rd and back onto LeGrande Cannon Blvd for a 1/4-mile sprint back to the start/finish line. Runners of all ages enjoy this unique event, and we hope to see you there!
