Description: The Castle to River Run takes place in the historic Hudson Valley. The 1/2 marathon race takes you up past Osborn's Castle and down to the Hudson River. The 5K race follow part of Benedict Arnold's escape path down to the Hudson River and back to the recreation center. The 50k races takes you past both the Castle and Benedict Arnold's escape path as well as into the Hudson Highlands State Park. Our kids 1-mile takes place right on the recreation center grounds and enjoys the beautiful fall foliage and picturesque views. Runner check-in opens at 6:30am. 50k starts at 8:00am. 1/2 Marathon starts at 9:00am. 5K starts at 9:30am. Kids race begins at 11:30am. Cut-off Times The 50k has an 8.5 hour time limit, meaning you need to finish by 4:30 pm. This is about a 16-17 min / mile pace. This cut-off allows for runners to finish the race by dusk. To ensure all runners complete the race by this time, there will be cut-offs at the 4th and 6th Aid Station (these are at the same location). Runners must be through the 4th Aid Station by 1:45 pm (mile 18.5) and the 6th Aid Station by 3:45 pm (mile 24.5). If you come in after these times, you'll be pulled from the course. If you think you'll need more than 8.5 hours to complete the 50k, we're allowing an early start at 7 am. Also keep in mind you'll be on your own the first hour-plus. Aid Stations and Field Marshals may not be ready - so please plan accordingly. Know the course and bring some fuel and hydration. There is not a cut-off time for the half marathon Course Description The 50k and 1/2 Marathon courses are a mix of single track, double track, dirt road, and a few paved sections thrown in for good measure. The single and double track trails are mostly mildly technical with some longer stretches of more challenging technical terrain mixed in. The course rolls with a few big hills here and there. The bulk of the course is runnable. For those who ran the 2019 March race, the courses will be slightly different but with a similar mix of loops. The 5k loop is flattish with a couple of hills to keep you honest. It's mostly dirt single track that is runnable and not too technical. Location and Parking The races start and finish at the Philipstown Recreation Department located at 107 Glenclyffe, Garrison, NY 10524. Parking will be at the Philipstown Rec. As you enter Glenclyffe, look for volunteers to direct you where to park. Refund Policy The 2019 Castle to River race will be held rain or shine. As this is a not-for-profit fundraiser for the Philipstown Recreation Department, we cannot provide refunds to participants. Only in the event that the race is canceled by the organizers (The Friends of the Philipstown Recreation Department) will refunds (less the non-refundable Ultrasignup service fee) be issued. Salomon New York Trail Series The Castle to River 50k and 1/2 Marathon are part of the Salomon New York Trail Series. These will be the 5th and final races in the 2019 series. All runners who have finished three out of these five races: the Breakneck Marathon or Half, Iron Mines 50k or 25k, White Face Sky Ultra, Water Gap 50k or Half and the Castle to River 50k or Half are series finishers. Series finishers are eligible to win the top 3 male and female awards (according to points) as well as be entered to win various Salomon prizes to be raffled off at the conclusion of the trail series.
