Description:
AKtive Camp 231 is a week long trail and mountain running day camp for high school runners ages 14-18. Each day campers will run a different trail in the Matanuska-Susitna valley of Alaska and learn both trail and mountain running techniques from experienced local runners. This week will challenge your teen runner in skill, endurance and fortitude as well as provide learning opportunities about the proper training, fueling, and safety involved in long distance and high altitude running.
Campers will receive quality coaching in both mountain and trail running form, technique, and endurance by local high school cross country coaches Rhonda Knopp and Norm Rousey who have a combined experience of over 40 years of coaching youth and adult runners.
While your child will be coached in running techniques and learn different aspects of running, they should also be ready for the intensity of this camp. Campers should come to camp with a solid running foundation and be able to run at least six miles (10k) without stopping. There are no pace requirements, we will have pace chaperones for all levels. Upon registering your child, you will receive an email including a basic schedule of running workouts from Coach Rousey to help your child prepare for the week of camp.
