After last year’s exciting and fruitful performances in Arinsal, Andorra, the US team begins to rally for the 2018 Youth Skyrunning World Championships in Italy!

Sam Hodges (Cornwall, VT) and Erin Magill (Moretown, VT) led the charge, dragging home some heavy metal on their first attempts in both the Vertical Kilometer and 15k distance races. Spain took the combined honors with a heavy load of 27 medals, Italy was 2nd with 10 medals. The US hopes to bridge the gap this year and bring home medals.

This years Skyrunning Youth World Championships are slated to be held in Aquila, Italy. The YWC will be held in conjunction with the Gran Sasso SkyRace. It will be 4th annual youth event. Event info here: http://www.gransassoskyrace.it

While US junior athletes revel in cross county, usually 5k in distance, many athletes are looking forward to the challenge of running central Europe’s big mountains. They’ll be ramping up the distance and the vertical training to prepare.

Each Country is allowed 18 slots throughout 3 age groups. Youth A (16-17 yrs): born from January the 1st 2002, to December the 31st 2001. Youth B (18-19-20 yrs): from January the 1st 2000, to December the 31st 1998. U23 (21-22-23 yrs): from January the 1st 1997, to December the 31st 1995.

With 18 slots available the US team is seeking applicants. To inquire contact Ryan Kerrigan at [email protected]. We are hoping to bring the strongest team possible to this years event.
