US athletes to participate in World Masters Mountain Running Championships

The 24th World Masters Mountain Running Championships will be held August 29-31, in Meduno, Italy. The event provides an opportunity for athletes aged 35-79 to race on the international stage. Registrants represent 35 nations for this year’s event. Ten athletes from the US will participate in the championships. All registered athletes in the championships must be members of their respective national federation, and for the US, the federation is USA Track & Field (USATF).

The races at World Masters

• Uphill Race: 5 km with an elevation gain of 800 meters.
• Classic Race: 14.1 km with an elevation gain of 735 meters.
• Long Distance Race: 32 km with an elevation gain of 1,705 meters.

Plan ahead for 2026

If you missed out on this year’s event, there will be plenty of time to consider racing the 25th World Masters Mountain Running Championships which will be held in Janské Lázně, Czech Republic, from June 26 to 28, 2026. The championships will feature three exciting race formats:

The uphill course in Janske Lazne.

Uphill Race
Distance: 7.5 km | Ascent: 740 m | Descent: 100 m
Starting in Janské Lázně and finishing atop Černá hora at 1260 m, this race will reward climbers who thrive on vertical challenges.

Long Distance Race
Distance: 21.0 km | Ascent & Descent: 1200 m
A challenging half-marathon distance with serious elevation change, showcasing the full variety of the local terrain.

Classic up/down race
Distance: 9.0 km | Ascent & Descent: 550 m
A balanced and technical course that begins and ends in Janské Lázně, ideal for well-rounded mountain runners.
