The seasonal focus might be on stuffing turkeys and stuffing stockings, but my daily obsession is stuffing my pockets. Actually, it’s the fact that stuffing my pockets isn’t exactly working out right now. Running in the wintertime doesn’t only add layers of clothing—it adds layers of complication.
Toting items on the run
In the summer, I just need enough pocket space for a car key and maybe a couple packets of GU. In the winter, I need pocket space for contingencies. Extra food…because what if I get stranded somewhere? Traction devices…because what if I encounter snow and ice? iPhone…because what if I need to call for help? Backup pair of mittens…because what if my gloves get wet? Dog treats…because my sleek Weimaraner burns more calories when it’s cold. Headlamp…because the sun sets early these days. The list goes on, but the pocket space is decidedly finite. Anyone who has struggled to fit their Samsonite roller into an overhead bin understands my plight.
Fortunately, Nathan Sports is back with another smart solution for my current conundrum. No, it’s not my grandpa’s fanny pack. It’s better. The Zipster Max is a sleek, waist-hugging 1.5 liters of receptacle real estate—which is the equivalent of two bottles of wine, in case you wondered.
Avoid the bounce with Zipster Max
Although I’m not a fan of high-rise trousers (buh-BYE 2010s fashion), I found the extra top-to-bottom length coupled with the stretchy fit all but eliminated the bounce that most waist packs can’t avoid. In spite of the stretch, there’s also a nice amount of compression, which is a major bonus for the midsection when faced with one holiday feast after another. Who doesn’t love a Spanx-like cummerbund that also stows all your valuables?
Water-resistant pockets
Rain and sleet in the forecast? No prob—the Zipster Max has two water-resistant zippered pockets, one of which is large enough to keep your plus-sized cell phone and your back up pair of mittens dry as a bone. Even when stuffed to the gills, the durable construction will tolerate more than you think—kind of the way my stomach does on Thanksgiving, except without the regretful feeling of gluttony. Easy access side pouches complete the outstanding storage capacity.
