Trail Runner’s Gear Review: iLive Clear wireless open ear clip earbuds

The following review was written by ATRA team member Anita Ortiz and features iLive Clear wireless open ear clip earbuds. Product was provided at no charge for the test and review.

I love listening to music. I especially love listening to music during long ultra-running races. Similarly, I have a friend who listens to books while she runs. And perhaps you’ve listened to a podcast or two. These are all wonderful ways to wile-away the hours whether running, riding, hiking or driving.

The one big problem with this connectedness to media is its limited battery power. Headphones just don’t last through an entire ultra race (unless you are a speedster) and this creates the logistical snafu of having to recharge mid-event. If you’ve had your media drop off before you’re ready, you know what I’m talking about!

I’ve not found any easy solution to this problem until now!

Extended listening

iLive Clear wireless open ear clip earbuds are the answer to your extended listening needs for two reasons. One of the main features of these little treasures is the 6.5-15 hour total playtime. This is enough playtime for many of the ultra race distances. Secondly, if you are in a REALLY long race, bike excursion or hiking trek…. the iLive Clear ear clips are a radically affordable $49. At this price you can afford to buy an extra pair or even two!

Wireless stereo sound

Another bragging point for the iLive Clear ear buds is the true wireless stereo sound. You can appreciate the complex music from the artists of today in true stereo while being safe and aware of your environment. These earbuds are open air clips, which wrap around your ear setting lightly yet securely into the ear canal, allowing for outside sounds to still be heard. Also, the wrap around feature holds the earbuds in place with absolutely no bounce!

Bluetooth compatible

In addition to the price tag (which, let’s face it, is fantastic) and the stereo sound, these babies have bluetooth compatibility and work with Siri and Google assistants. They have a built-in mic for hands free calling and can be controlled with one ear touch control.

The only downfall to these ear clips is a byproduct of one of its wonderful features. Due to the nature of the truly wireless earbuds and stereo sound, there are, “occasional interruptions with the audio in areas with multiple 2.4Ghz bands or in high wireless traffic areas.” While I did experience this, it was not often, and the drop in sound lasted for less than for less than a second.

Thumbs up

All in all, I’ll be purchasing more of these iLive Clear wireless open ear clip earbuds before my ultra racing season begins. The sound is good, the playtime is decent, and the price is excellent. Find out more about iLive ear clip earbuds here.
