Snowshoe National Championships Coming To Bend, Oregon

Written by Mark Elmore, Sport Director, United States Snowshoe Racing Association (USSSA).

The US Snowshoe Association and their event partners at Visit Bend in Bend, Oregon are working hard preparing to host the 2017 U.S. National Snowshoe Championships at the Mount Bachelor Nordic Center March 24th-26th, 2017. Many of the nation’s finest winter endurance athletes are expected to participate competing for National Championship titles and 2017 US National Team berths.

On Day 2 of the Championships, athletes under 20 years of age will compete over a 5km course, while Senior athletes ages 20+ compete over a challenging 10km course for national titles, age group awards and national team spots. On Day 3, demanding Half Marathon and Marathon National Championship events challenge athletes from all across the country. National Championship events only require current USSSA membership.

Other “Open” events will be available and require no membership. These events include the Kid’s Kilo and Citizen’s 5km Run/Walk on Saturday and the always fun 4 x 2.5km Snowshoe Team Relay on Sunday. So, there is something there for everyone. Loaner snowshoes will also be available. Plus, there’s always time for off snow fun including Friday evening’s Day 1 Championship Reception, Saturday’s Day 2 Awards Ceremony and “Bend Wide Open” event and Sunday’s Day 3 Championship Party!
