The 2024 edition of the international mountain running event has been suspended with the aim of restarting at full capacity in 2025. Because the Stellina doesn’t stop here!
The Stellina 2024 Challenge will not take place, as initially planned, on August 25th. The Organizing Committee, led by the Olympic champions Livio Berruti and Maurizio Damilano, with Atletica Susa Adriano Aschieris, has in fact considered that the conditions for this year did not exist to stage the international mountain running event, which has returned in recent editions to to be a Nations Trophy. “I am truly sorry that, precisely in this year of war turbulence, the Stellina, the only international competition aimed by statute at peace between peoples, cannot be organised. However, I want to consider this year’s absence as a simple temporary sporting break” – declares Livio Berruti.
On the same wavelength Maurizio Damilano: “The non-contest of the Challenge Stellina 2024 is certainly a wound for the world of sport and athletics. But I am convinced that after a pause of force majeure the sporting competition will be able to return even more alive in its values (from military clash to sporting, loyal and friendly confrontation) which are so necessary in the world today”.
“The Stellina Challenge is strongly linked to the history of Atletica Susa, which with its management and a large number of volunteers has been putting great efforts into organizing the event for over 35 years – the words of Irene Bologna, president of the ‘Atl. Susa – . The need to take a break represents a painful decision: precisely for this reason we are taking action to keep the Stellina story alive.”
In fact, we would like to remind you that the Stellina Challenge was created in memory of the partisan battle of the Grange Sevine, the eightieth anniversary of which this year will be celebrated. The organizers are currently examining the possibility of organizing, again on August 25th, a walk open to all starting from Chiamberlando and arriving in Costa Rossa, to which an invited relay could be added to athletes of international caliber who will compete against the records of the route of the New Zealander Jonathan Wyatt and the Austrian Andrea Mayr.

Sospesa l’edizione 2024 della manifestazione internazionale di corsa in montagna con l’obiettivo di ripartire a pieno regime nel 2025. Perchè la Stellina non si ferma qui!
Il Challenge Stellina 2024 non si disputerà, come inizialmente previsto, il prossimo 25 agosto. Il Comitato Organizzatore, guidato dai campioni olimpici Livio Berruti e Maurizio Damilano, con l’Atletica Susa Adriano Aschieris, ha infatti ritenuto che non ci fossero le condizioni per quest’anno per allestire la manifestazione internazionale di corsa in montagna, tornata nelle ultime edizioni ad essere Trofeo per Nazioni. “Sono veramente dispiaciuto che, proprio in quest’anno di turbolenze di guerre, la Stellina, l’unica gara internazionale finalizzata per statuto alla pace fra i popoli, non possa essere organizzata. Voglio però considerare l’assenza di quest’anno come una semplice momentanea pausa sportiva” – dichiara Livio Berruti.
Sulla stessa lunghezza d’onda Maurizio Damilano: “La non disputa del Challenge Stellina 2024 è certamente una ferita per il mondo dello sport e dell’atletica. Ma sono convinto che dopo una pausa di forza maggiore la gara sportiva saprà tornare ancora più viva nei suoi valori (da scontro militare a confronto sportivo, leale e di amicizia) tanto necessari oggi nel mondo”.
“Il Challenge Stellina è fortemente legato alla storia dell’Atletica Susa, che con il suo direttivo e un gran numero di volontari da oltre 35 anni mette in campo grandi sforzi per l’organizzazione dell’evento – le parole di Irene Bologna, presidente dell’Atl. Susa – . La necessità di prendersi una pausa rappresenta una decisione sofferta: proprio per questo ci stiamo attivando per mantenere comunque viva la storia della Stellina”.
Ricordiamo infatti che il Challenge Stellina nasce in ricordo della battaglia partigiana delle Grange Sevine di cui quest’anno ricorre l’ottantesimo anniversario, che verrà comunque celebrato. Al vaglio degli organizzatori attualmente la possibilità di organizzare, sempre per il 25 agosto, una camminata aperta a tutti con partenza da Chiamberlando e arrivo a Costa Rossa, cui si potrebbe aggiungere una staffetta ad inviti ad atleti di calibro internazionale che si misureranno con i record del percorso del neozelandese Jonathan Wyatt e dell’austriaca Andrea Mayr.
Seguiranno, appena definiti, ulteriori aggiornamenti con l’obiettivo di ripartire a pieno regime nel 2025.
