Desert Solstice 24 Hour Ultrarunning Race Kicks-off This Weekend

Announcement from longtime American Trail Running Association member Aravaipa Running.

Aravaipa Running is excited to announce the 2021 Desert Solstice 24/100 Mile Hour Track Invitational kicking off at 8am on Saturday, December 11th at Central High School in Phoenix, Arizona. This year will be our most competitive year to date, with 30 runners from 6 different countries.

Desert Solstice is an elite level track invitational ideal for record setting and qualifying race for the U.S. National 24 Hour Team. Now in its 11th consecutive year, Desert Solstice has previously seen 86 National Records and 14 World Records. With a field including 9 members of the US 24 hour National Team and the current Women’s World Record Holder in the 100 mile and 24 hour events, we are anticipating impressive marks at the 2021 event!

“After a disappointing cancellation of the IAU World 24 hour in Romania due to COVID-19, many athletes were searching for an alternate event to take advantage of their training and set their sights on National or World records.” said Race Director Julie Haro. “Desert Solstice fits the bill with our mild December weather and high qualifying standards. This ensures athletes have the greatest possible chance of achieving their goals.”

Aravaipa is proud to partner with a number of amazing brands for the 2021 Desert Solstice Track Invitational. Partners for this year include COROS, the leader in performance sports technology, as well as Gnarly Nutrition and Squirrels Nut Butter.

This year’s athletes include legendary American runners Camille Heron, Marisa Lizak, Pam Smith, Nick Coury, Jacob Jackson, and Pete Kostlenick, among many others. In additional to the stout American field, the International contingent features amazing athletes such as Bulgarian 100 mile National record holder Hristo Tsvetkov and Canadian Women’s 45-49 100 mile National record holder Viktoria Brown.
