2018 North American Continental Snowshoe Championships to be held in Saranac, NY

Corinth, NY: The United States Snowshoe Association is pleased to announce that the World Snowshoe Federation (WSSF) recently awarded their 2018 North American Continental Snowshoe Championships event to 2017 US National Snowshoe Team member Jeremy Drowne and his Cock-A-Doodle-Shoe Snowshoe Race in Saranac, NY. The WSSF Continental Snowshoe Championships are the penultimate step to the annual World Snowshoe Championships.

The 2018 North American Championships on Sunday January 14th, 2018, first hosted last season in Quebec City Canada, are open to all snowshoe enthusiasts and will assemble many of the finest snowshoe racers from Canada, Mexico and the US. Building upon the dramatic success of the 2017 WSSF World Snowshoe Championships held last season in nearby Saranac Lake, NY, the 2018 NOR-AM Championships are sure to be competitive and fun! It was also recently learned that the Village of Saranac Lake, NY, which so capably hosted the 2017 WSSF World Snowshoe Championships last February, will present the second edition of their very popular Shoe-Be-Doo Snowshoe Fest on Saturday February 24th, 2018. The WSSF has announced the 2018 World Snowshoe Championships will be presented in Spain for the first time on March 2nd-4th, 2018 at Fuente de in the Picos de Europa. The US snowshoe racing season comes to a close on March 9th-11th, 2018 with the hosting of the USSSA’s 18th annual Dion Snowshoes US National Snowshoe Championships at Prospect Mountain Nordic Center in Woodford VT. Nearly 400 athletes, the largest US Championship ever, attended the 2014 event when it last visited this site. Nearly 500 participants are expected in 2018! Race director Tim Van Orden has assured us he will present another awesome weekend of snowshoe competition, fun and spirit. The 2018 Championships will mark the first time a true US Snowshoe Half Marathon and Snowshoe Marathon National Championship event will be presented in the northeastern US since these events were added to the USSSA’s national championship program in 2015 (Half Marathon) and 2016 (Marathon).
