Description:

Welcome to Wild Outback. This is a one-of-a-kind race. It is the first trail running race in a remote section of Oregon where you are truly in the Oregon outback. Very few people have ventured onto these remote trails. The entire race follows the Fremont National Recreation Trail that was built in 1999 by the Northwest Youth Corps. The course consists mostly of following a ridge line – with amazing views, Ponderosa Pines, alpine meadows with Quaking Aspens and oodles of wildflowers blooming. You may even get lucky and see the elusive Pronghorn.

The trail saw little use over the years, but a huge thanks to the Oregon Timber Trail Alliance (OTTA), Oregon Desert Trail, and the mountain bike community who worked with the Forest Service and organized (and fed) a legion of volunteers, the trail was cleared over a 2 year span of hundreds of downed trees due to fire and beetle kill.

This classic point-to-point course consists of 95% single track trail and 5% dirt road with 3 fully stocked aid stations. There is 4700ft of gain and 5700ft of loss at an average elevation of 6000ft.
