This will be the 24th running of the Western Days Stampede and the fourth year in a row be run along Chatfield’s scenic Lost Creek Hiking Trail. The course features hills, valleys, fields and creek crossings. The event offers 10K and 2-mile trail races and a free 1-mile fun run. There will also be a team competition. With your one registration fee you can run either or both of the races (and then cool down with the fun run!) and compete as both an individual and on a team.
The 10K and 2-mile races are point-to-point and will be chip timed by Wayzataresults.com.

The Stampede is scheduled for Saturday morning, Aug. 11, during Western Days, Chatfield’s community festival. The starting gun for the 10K race will go off at 8 a.m., with the two-mile race at about 9:30 a.m. The free one-mile fun run follows. Buses leave for the starting line 15 minutes before race time.

Team competition will be open (no age groups) and will be in three classes — male, female and co-ed — in both the 10K and 2-mile races. Each team must have four runners. Each runs the full distance of the race (it’s not a relay). The team with the lowest combined time of its four entrants wins.

Runners on a team register as individuals but also indicate their team name on their entry form (all members of a team must spell their team name EXACTLY the same or the computer database won’t recognize them). Entrants will be scored individually and with their team. There is no additional entry fee for the team competition.

This is a family-friendly event, with a maximum registration fee of $40 for four or more immediate family members registering together (does not include T-shirts). There’s also a $5 discount for individual runners age 15 and under.

Individual competition for the Stampede feature runners competing in the Stampede10K and two-mile races in the following age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and above.

Horseshoe trophies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in both the 10K and two-mile races, and to the members of each winning team. In addition, medals will go the top three male and female finishers in each of the nine different age groups.

Proceeds from the event go to the Chatfield High School cross country team. No refunds or transfers.

The Lost Creek Hiking Trail runs for 6.5 miles in one direction, on natural surface and can be described as “technical”. It is hilly and the terrain rugged in some locations. The Lost Creek Hiking Trail was developed by the Bluff Country Hiking Club and opened in 2011. The trail was made possible by the generous private land owners who granted permission to access their land along the path. Maintenance is provided by a group of Chatfield volunteers who love the outdoors and beautiful Southeast Minnesota. Please contact Bluff Country Hiking Club secretary, Jenny Bradt at [email protected] if you have any additional questions.
