Known internationally as the Copper Canyon Ultramarathon through author Chris McDougall’s book “Born to Run”. In memory of Micah True “Caballo Blanco,” the race has returned to the name by which it was known in the Canyons, “Ultramaraton Caballo Blanco. Run on hilly, rocky single-track and dirt roads. Race Cutoff time is 16 hours. 3rd Loop cutoff is 12 hours (approximately 64km). Course is well marked with white paint on rocks and trees. Multiple Aid Stations. Medical assistance available. Raramuri Run Free. The Ultra Maratón Caballo Blanco is conducted by the Municipality of Urique, Chihuahua, México with support from True Messages nonprofit and ‘Mas Locos’ throughout the world. The UMCB has an incredible and storied history and is considered one of Ultra Marathon Running’s must-do bucket list events. Started by Micah True (El Caballo Blanco) who wanted to bring runners from all over the world and introduce them to the Ramamuri (Tarahumara) people, their beautiful lands and their great culture. The Ultra event brings together endurance athletes from all over the planet to run together with over 600 Raramuri athletes.

As of 2017 there is now also a Marathon distance (42K), and as of 2020 a half marathon (21K) for those wanting to experience all the beauty of this cultural and running event but not quite ready for the 50 mile distance. The Caballo Blanco Marathon is still a very challenging event with climbs and what is typically a very warm day. With the new changes implemented in 2019, we have improved even further on what is surely one of the most scenic Marathons on the planet.
