The Big Dipper Trail Race

Jul 18, 2015 at 6:00 PM

1 College Ave, Mechanicsburg PA, 17055, USA

About the course: The course begins on the Starry Athletic Fields and stays entirely on Messiah College property. After crossing the covered bridge, it joins the Fit Trail (gravel at first, then dirt double-track), then hops on a single-track trail before a drop onto the path following the perimeter of the back 40 field loop (grass) and passing a water station and climbing up the double-track water tower hill. These middle miles will test even the strongest of runners as you drop down to creek level on winding single-track, climb up the bluffs beside the Breeches, and take a harrowing single-track descent back to the Fit Trail. The last mile on this side of the creek is downhill and fast! The finish is back in Starry Fields, where we will also hold awards and have post-race snacks available. About the race: This is a great race for both for beginners in the trail racing scene, as well as experienced trail runners wanting a tough, hilly tune-up for larger trail runs. It is a no-frills kind of race (like most good trail races). There are no finisher’s medals (just prizes for first place man and woman) or chip timing; just you, your competitors, and the course. If you like to challenge yourself on multiple types of surfaces and terrain and are not afraid to be adventurous or enjoy the great outdoors up close, this is your kind of race.
