Description:
Bull Run Park – Hemlock – Bull Run Marina – Fountainhead Regional Park. Western Fairfax County, VA. 18.5 Miles of Trail Running – 3 Segments – 5-7 Miles/Segment. Solo Racers Run All 18 Miles. 2 Person Relay Teams Run One and Two Segments Each. 3 Person Relay Teams Run One Segment Each. The Reservoir Relay will include 18 miles of trail running awesomeness in Western Fairfax County. The race traverses the Occoquan Reservoir and will be divided into three linear segments measuring 5-7 miles each. Race solo or leap frog the three segments on a 2 or 3 person relay team where the ‘active’ runner and the ‘on deck’ runner will swap car keys for epunch key (timing chip). For two person teams, one team member will complete any two segments of the race. Segment 1 – Bull Run Park (start) to Hemlock Overlook – 7 Miles. Segment 2 – Hemlock Overlook to Bull Run Marina – 5 Miles. Segment 3 – Bull Run Marina to Fountainhead Regional Park – 6.5 Miles. This race will be well marked and mostly follow the Bull Run – Occoquan Trail (aka the Blue Trail). A few short side trails will be added as well, mainly to connect the Blue Trail with the staging area at each park. All four of these parks are located along the banks of the historic Bull Run and Occoquan Reservoir and they have some of the most beautiful and remote feeling terrain in Fairfax County, Virginia, only 30 minutes outside of Washington D.C. Sightings of deer, beaver, turkey, osprey and great blue heron are not uncommon.
