RAIDLIGHT ETNA TRAIL

Description:

The race takes place on the northeast side of Mount Etna, which is the highest active volcano in Europe and is entered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The start of the race is in Linguaglossa, a village located approximately 550 meters above sea level. You’ll eventually climb to reach up to almost 3000 meters (below the mouth of the volcano). The route is characterized by about 95% marked trails or dirt roads and about 5% spread over the volcanic terrain where there are no clearly marked paths. Along the way you can admire the volcano in several of its aspects: impressive coniferous forests, lava flows desert, off eruptive vents, and lava caves. The race is in its sixth edition (although for the first time the long race is 90 km). Last year a total of 400 athletes participated. Registration is open from 1.1.2016 and will close on 20.7.2016. In addition to the long race (90KM) there will also be a short race of 24 km and a non-competitive event for walkers of 12 km. For more information, visit the race’s website or Facebook page.
