Incredible views. No asphalt.
Join us for the 2nd annual Point Alta Vista Trail Races at the beautiful Royal Gorge Trails in Cañon City, Colorado. Rocky Mountain views abound on these trail-based courses that feature singletrack trails and dirt roads. No traffic. No asphalt. No kidding.
Distance: ~13.1 miles
Terrain: 90% Natural surface singletrack, 10% dirt road
Singletrack type: Rocky in places
Elevation gain / loss: ~1,500 feet
Equivalent to: a 138-story building
Points of significance: Steep hill on One Track Mind, trestles, incredible views all over!
Directions to the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort:
From Cañon City, take Hwy 50 West toward Salida. At the turnoff for the Royal Gorge (CR3A), turn L (south) and travel about 1.5 miles to the entrance to the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort. Take the second entrance and follow the dirt road west toward the Gunslinger’s Clubhouse – located on the hill. Park in one of the two large lots near the Clubhouse.
Packet pickup:
Packet pickup will be available on Friday, October 9th at Cañon City Brews & Bikes (224 Main Street) from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Course:
Course maps for the 5K and half-marathon will be available in the summer. As the trail system expands, we’ll modify the course to include the best singletrack and viewpoints available.
Start:
The start of both the 5K and half-marathon races will be at the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort. At the Gunslinger’s Lounge, you’ll find plenty for family members and spectators to do as they await your return: volleyball, a play area, food, beverages, and kids’ races. Please note that this is private property and pre-running the entire course is not an option.
Distances:
Trail races are nearly impossible to set at an exact distance. We have tried to maximize the quality of our course, e.g. they are all loops and do not include any out and back sections. However, this means that the distances may be slightly more / less than a traditional distance.
Spectator Information:
Friends and family are welcome to join in on the fun! Our host, the Royal Gorge Ranch & Resort, will have plenty of space at the start / finish line for spectators to set up tents, chairs, and blankets. There is NO COST to attend the post-race festivities.
