Description:

Welcome to the Perpetua Coast trail runs, set in the vibrant coastal village of Yachats, Oregon (say YAH-hots) and the Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area! The event features 50K and 20-mile lollipop-loop courses with everything the Oregon Coast has to offer, from cozy beach town charm, rocky shoreline bluffs, sandy beaches, epic headland vistas and moss-draped old growth rainforest.

Since 2014, this event has been hosted as the Oregon Coast trail runs, produced by our friends at Rainshadow Running. We are honored to now take the reins of this scenic and beautiful event into the future!

Towering 800 feet over the Pacific Ocean, the Cape Perpetua headland is one of the highest viewpoints on the Oregon Coast, offering unmatched views of 70 miles of shoreline and 35 miles out to sea on clear days. From this high point, views of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Cape Perpetua Scenic Area’s rugged and rocky shore demonstrate the power of the ocean as it meets the coastal temperate rainforest, rich with exceptionally diverse ecology and archeological significance.

Nestled between lush temperate rainforest and rhythmic Pacific surf, Yachats is a word derived from the native term Ya’Xaik (YAH-hike), commonly used to refer to the Yachats area and the band of native Alsea people who lived there. The Alsea called the Cape Perpetua area Halaqaik, the “uncovered place, open place or exposed place” which they maintained as open meadows through generations of cultural burning of encroaching forest, which facilitated their hunting of elk, deer and other game.

Perpetua Coast is the second of three races in the Oregon Coast Trail Series! To learn more or participate in the OCT Series, head over to the info page HERE.

Land Acknowledgement: We honor and recognize that we gather for this event on the traditional lands of the native Alsea peoples, who have been part of this landscape for at least 6,000 years, with Yachats and Cape Perpetua bearing much evidence of this rich history.
