Lost Lake Ultra
245 Chuckanut Dr, Bellingham WA, 98229, USA
2022 event cancelled. Due to circumstances out of my control, both race courses will be short this year. I apologize for this. The DNR has denied us access to part of the course which has forced us to make changes and shorten the course. For issues regarding safety and staffing we are not able to make any further changes to the course.
Description
The Lost Lake 50K will hold its 11th annual trail race on Saturday May 4th, 2019 at the base of Chuckanut Mountain. This course is not only scenic, but will be quite challenging as well. The 8,000 feet of elevation gain will melt away when you see the San Juan Islands to the west, the Skagit farmlands to the south, the town of Bellingham and Canadian mountains to the north, and amazing views of Mt. Baker and North Cascades to the East. Surrounded by lush old-growth forests (where you would expect to run into Bigfoot), runners will pass by Fragrance and Lost Lakes. These lakes are only a few of the many treasures along the way. On a clear day, no trail description could ever do justice to the true beauty of this area where the Cascades plunge into the ocean. There are several challenging, leg-burning, steep ascents, slow, technical, rolling ridges, and a limited supply of fast “free speed” on the descents.
The Lost Lake 25k will also take place on May 4th. While only half the distance this race starts out with a brutal climb up the Pine and Cedar Trail–1,400ft in just over 2 miles. The course follows the final 25k of the 50k course as it winds through ferns and mud, up to the rocky Raptor Ridge lookout and around Fragrance Lake, before plummeting down to the finish at Larrabee State Park’s Lost Lake Day Use parking lot.
