Heroes Ultra

Description: A trail ultrarunning adventure, following in the footsteps of WWII's finest military operation. Trace the escape route of the 1944 abduction of General Kreipe through the incredible island of Crete. Course Description. Distance: 154.2 km | Elev. Heroes Ultra crosses the island of Crete from North to South, taking in a wide range of spectacular scenery. The race starts at daybreak at Vosakou, a 17th century Monastery nestled in the Tallaia Mountains. It then heads towards Mt Ida (Psiloritis) crossing over the snow-covered Akolyta pass at an altitude of 1,920m before winding down the Amari valley towards Mt Kedros. In the Amari, the course takes runners through a number of villages on the slopes of Mt Kedros, then heads west through olive-grove country before veering south towards the coast. The course finishes at the beautiful beach of Peristeres where weary runners can take a dive or enjoy a warming shot of raki with their hot meal. Race formerly known as the Kreipe Run.
