Discover the Woods 5K Trail Run

Description: The 8th Annual Discover the Woods 5K Trail Race and 1 Mile Fun Run is Saturday October 3rd, 2015. The 5K Trail Race begins at 10 am and the 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 11. Registration for both races begins at 8 am. The races take place at Holly Hill Farm, a certified organic vegetable, flower and herb farm located at 236 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset. The 5K course is rolling hills through 140 acres of woods that surround the growing fields of the farm, past open meadows, grassy field edges, a brook, and a pond. The terrain is a mixture of gravel paths, grass, rocks, tree roots, wooden bridges and mud! There is no pavement! The farm has a nonprofit education center onsite that uses the resources of the farm as its outdoor classroom to teach about sustainable agriculture and eating healthy food grown in a way that protects the ecosystem. Proceeds from these races benefit the Frank H. White Scholarship Fund that makes summer camp experiences and school field trips possible for students whose families need financial assistance. Overflow parking is available at Sandy Beach – 345 Atlantic Avenue, 0.9 miles from the farm. Free shuttle service will be available from 9 am until noon. The race will be timed and results will be available at the race and posted online as well. Prizes for top finishers have been donated from Marathon Sports and Chipotle Mexican Grill. In keeping with the mission of Holly Hill Farm, all t-shirts will be organic cotton! T-shirts will be guaranteed for those who register by Friday September 18th. There will be a limited quantity available on the day of the race as well. Please pre-register online for the race - it makes race day so much easier! Anyone who pre-registers on or before Friday October 2nd will be entered into a drawing for one of several prizes to be given out the morning of the race. Prizes include gift certificates to local businesses and an organic cotton veggie bag and a gift certificate for produce at the Farm Stand at Holly Hill Farm! Please bring your reusable water bottle! We will have plenty of water, but in keeping with our mission of sustainability, we are attempting to make this a zero trash event so we will not be offering disposable water bottles or cups. There will be complimentary snacks available after the race. Please come early to explore the barnyard that includes historic buildings and the farm animals - a horse, pony, 2 adorable goats, a bunny and many chickens. The farm stand opens at 11 am so please plan a visit to stock up on locally grown organic vegetables, flowers, herbs and products from our partners including bread, cheese, hummus, honey, and more.
