Cirque Series – Engelberg

Welcome to Engelberg at the foot of the Titlis. The start and finish area is at the valley station of the Engelberg-Trubsee-Titlis mountain railways. At the beginning we walk eastwards along the local river Engelberger Aa with a view of the Hahnen. The first ascent begins at the Banklialp. Passing the hotel of the same name, it goes into the forest. The natural subsurface begins. In a simple zigzag it goes up the mountain to the Gerschnialp. From this first plateau you can see the destination in a lofty height in front of you. Now take another deep breath, enjoy the wonderful panorama and say hello to the cows. The well-developed trail winds its way uphill gently at the beginning, always a little steeper, up to Trubsee. On this second plateau another panorama opens up, this time with a lake. Along the lake it’s more or less flat to the old Bitzi lift. This former lift route is steep uphill all the way to the top of the Bitzistock.

Once at the top, a breathtaking view of Engelberg and the surrounding mountains awaits you. Enjoy briefly, take a deep breath – now the fun part of the race begins. On the soft alpine grassland it goes downhill back to the lake on the hiking trail. At first, loosely rocking, the terrain becomes more demanding and steeper. On the «washing plate» you come to stony ground, from where you stab down the cannon barrel until you reach a small forest where the single trail has you again and you can dance. The path to Untertrubsee meanders between stones and roots. You come back to the valley via alpine meadows and old paths. Done!
