Description:
Black Rock Forest is an exceptional place, existing in relative solitude just north of Harriman/Bear Mountain State Parks, and adjacent to the lands of West Point to the south.
This unique race event is designed so as to showcase the forest rather than cover excessive mileage. Among its 3,800+ acres of pristine forest land, Black Rock features numerous mountain peaks, most with stunning views, and some with a view of Manhattan (40+ miles away). To leverage these glorious peaks, we devised the Ten Summits race – our feature distance – which will be sure to test your endurance and leg strength. Ten peaks in 15 miles, and over 3,300 feet of elevation gain to remind you that this is no stroll in the woods.
The event is produced by Shawangunk Adventures – the company which brings you the Long Path Race Series. The Black Rock Races will feature the Ten Summits (25K) race as well as a well as the White Oak (12K) carriage road run.
Black Rock Forest is a not-for-profit organization with a mission of advancing scientific understanding of the natural world through research, education, and conservation programs. The forest maintains a 3,838-acre forest and a scientific field station in the Hudson Highlands, 60 miles north of New York City, and collaborates with its members – universities, schools, scientific and cultural institutions – to pursue and foster scientific inquiry, and to create educational programs for K-16 students, teachers, and the general public.
Black Rock Forest works with many partners to pursue conservation goals in the Hudson Highlands and the greater mid-Hudson Valley region.
Part of the proceeds of this event will go to support Black Rock’s educational initiatives. We think this will be a very special event and we hope to introduce you to this very special place which is very close to our hearts.
