Presented by AAZK and Peak Performance to benefit the Red Wolf Coalition! Held at Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek, IA. Come run with the pack in a challenging 4 mile trail run or join us for a 1-mile, 2-mile or stroller friendly nature hike. Stick around for the award ceremony! Giveaways! Great FREE food and FREE beverages! Unique Earth friendly awards for top 3 male & female trail run finishers overall and in 10 year age increments! This race is not only fun and challenging but it offers a unique opportunity to run on the beautiful trails of a local Nature Reserve while at the same time doing your part to preserve Nature! This year we are running to support another incredible species. The red wolf (Canis rufus) is one of the world’s most endangered canids. Once common throughout the eastern and southcentral United States, red wolf populations were decimated by the early part of the 20th Century as a result of intensive predator control programs and the degradation and alteration of the species’ habitat. The red wolf was designated an endangered species in 1967, and shortly thereafter the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service initiated efforts to conserve the species. Today, more than 50 red wolves roam their native habitats in eastern North Carolina, and nearly 200 red wolves are maintained in captive breeding facilities throughout the United States
