American Trail Running Association has partnered with Adventure Advocates to provide low cost accident medical insurance as well as a host of other benefits designed to protect and promote an active lifestyle for you and your family.

In addition to Accident Medical Protection, members can emergency helicopter rescue and other active lifestyle benefits including roadside assistance, 24 hour toll free nurse line, and discounts for gear purchases, hotels, rental cars and vitamins/supplements.

Accident Insurance for Trail Runners F.A.Q.

Q: What is the Accident Insurance benefit option?
A: When joining Adventure Advocates, you can choose to be protected by our accident medical expense insurance benefit, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from accident related medical expenses (certain exclusions and limitations apply – see below). This program is important if you find yourself leading an active lifestyle without the protection of health insurance, and also works as a supplement to most health insurance policies by protecting against out-of-pocket expenses.

Q: What are the limits of the Adventure Advocates accident medical insurance benefit?
A: When joining Adventure Advocates, the accident medical benefit availability, limits and cost vary by state, but in general you can select from the following options:

  • Gold plan, which provides up to $10,000 in accident medical benefit with a $250 deductible
  • Silver plan, which provides up to $5,000 in accident medical benefit with a $250 deductible
  • Bronze plan, which provides up to $2,500 in accident medical benefit with a $250 deductible

Q: Does the Adventure Advocates accident insurance coverage include exclusions?
A: Yes, the program is only available in certain states and the benefits all include certain exclusions and limitations. A few notable exclusions include, but are not limited to: Hazardous activities including but not limited to racing any motorized or non-motorized vehicle, rock or mountain climbing, intercollegiate and extreme sports. Also excluded are hazardous occupations including professional or semi-professional sports, adult sporting competitions at a national or international level, extreme sports or other activity for which compensation is received. Please note: if your occupation is excluded, you can remain covered for injuries unrelated to your occupation. Important: this is a partial list of exclusions and limitations and by no means should be considered a full outline of activities, occupations, avocations, etc. that are excluded or limited. For full list of covered and excluded activities and services, please review the policy that you will receive in the mail. It is the member’s responsibility to read their policy upon joining. Members have a 30 day free look period and can cancel for a full refund within their free look period.

Q: Is the Accident Insurance benefit that is optional with Adventure Advocates membership good everywhere?
A: The accident medical insurance coverage that is optional with Adventure Advocates membership is limited to injuries sustained in the United States.

Q: What additional benefits are provided?
A: When joining Adventure Advocates, you will automatically receive a host of non-insurance benefits, as well as optional add-on benefits, such as helicopter rescue coverage.
