Directions: M72 west from Traverse City, Michigan to county rd. 669
(About 15 miles). Follow 669 north to M22 (about 10 miles). 669 jogs
for 1/4 mile at county road 616. Left on M22 to Thorson Rd (about 5
miles). Right on Thorson. Follow for 1/2 mile. Trail head on
left.
Trail Information: Part of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
Views of Lake Michigan and Manitou Islands from several places on trail.
Very hilly. 9.8 miles of trails through forest, meadows and around old
midwest barns. Hal Higdon ran it and calls it one of the most beautiful
runs he has experienced.
Miscellaneous Information: There are other trails on the Sleeping Bear
Dune National Lakeshore. I am lucky to live right in the thick of this
very little known trail runners playground. Pick up Trail maps at trail heads or
at Park headquarters in Empire (M72 west of Traverse Cit).
