Directions: The New Santa Fe Trail can be accessed best by
parking at the trailheads located either at Palmer Lake or the north entrance to the Air
Force Academy. The trailhead at the AFA is just off Interstate 25, five miles north
of Colorado Springs.
Trail Information: This 14 mile trail stretches from the
south end of the Air Force Academy grounds, north through the towns of Monument and Palmer
Lake. It consists of dirt, is well-maintained, and gently rises from south to north.
Miscellaneous Information: Several interesting informational signs about
the area history, plant life, and wildlife are located about every half-mile along the
trail. Great views of the Rampart Range can be viewed the full length of the trail!
