TriSport hosts another successful Trail Girl event in Wilderness, South Africa

Press release from ATRA corporate member TriSport South Africa.

The weekend of 8 and 9 April was a girls only weekend like no other! Ladies from as far as Limpopo and even Namibia joined the TriSport team for a fun weekend of trail running where runners could let down their hair, laugh, shout, cry, and just be themselves while enjoying the pristine trails of the SANParks national parks. Although the event was open to teams as well as individuals most of the runners entered in team format and there were quite a few mother and daughter teams that took part.

The host for the weekend was The Wilderness Hotel which is one of the Garden Route’s oldest and best-loved hotels. The ladies were treated like queens by this establishment that is steeped in a grand tradition and filled with old-style charm.

Perfect warm weather welcomed a sea of pink-dressed ladies on day one that consisted of an 18,5 km run through Saasveld and the surrounding area, past the George dam.

Geraldine von Fintel and Jo Mackenzie from team New Adventures were the first and second runner to cross the finish line on day one with a time of 1:47:21. In third place was veteran solo runner Claudia Steyn with a time of 2:12:46. Back at the hotel, the ladies were treated to a luxurious massage to soothe their sore muscles and get them in tip-top shape for the next day’s 15,8 km run.

Day two started on the beautiful beach at The Dunes in Wilderness. The route for the second day took runners along the beach, up White’s Road which gently meanders up Wilderness Heights, onto the Bosduif trail and with the pont back to The Wilderness Hotel.

The second day saw the ladies from team New Adventures again crossing the finish line first (1:34:10) with Nanja Kriek (1:44:32) the first solo runner to finish the race.

The Trail Girl event is a great opportunity for mothers and daughters to spend time together and there were various family teams on the day. In this category, the Farm Chicks Lesley Malan and Candice de Bruin were in the first overall position with Team Pinky, Brenda Johnston and Clarissa Johnston in second, and Team Skholly, Sally Chambers and Holly Chambers, in third place.
TriSport would like to thank their partners at this event, SANParks, Racefood and FutureLife for their support. A special word of thanks to The Wilderness Hotel for their hospitality.

The next ladies only event is the Bike Girl 2-Day Mountain Bike Tour that will take place on 20 and 21 May with Simola Hotel and Spa as the venue.
