September 15, 2000 - US is represented on the World Mountain Running Council
During the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) meeting on September 8
in Bergen, Germany in conjunction with the World Mountain Running Trophy
races, Danny Hughes, President of the WMRA appointed Nancy Hobbs as the WMRA
treasurer. In this volunteer position, Hobbs will be providing organizational
support for the association including budget direction and financial
This is the first time there has been representation from the United States
and the first time that a woman has held a seat on the seven-member council.
The next WMRA council meeting will be held in Monaco in January 2001.
An enthusiastic Hobbs related the following after her appointment, "It is an
honor to represent the US on the WMRA council and I hope that during my
tenure as a council member I will see our sport gain increased awareness in
the US and abroad."
Hobbs is the executive director and founder of the All American Trail Running
Association, the USATF MUT subcommittee representative for mountain running
from women's long distance running, a board member of the Federation for
Sport at Altitude, and an avid trail and mountain runner.
